Sahar Zareen Bandial is an Advocate of the High Courts and a member of the Adjunct Faculty at the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law, LUMs. She has a keen interest in gender issues and has worked extensively in the area of legislative drafting. Sahar Bandial is an Advocate of the High Courts. She completed the Tripos in Law from the University of Cambridge in 2010 and a B.A (Hons.) in Political Science from Wellesley College in 2008. Sahar is currently working at Hamid Law Associates and litigates in the areas of constitutional, civil, banking, labour and family law before the Civil Court and the High Court. Sahar has also worked with the Punjab Judicial Academy as an instructor in its General Training Programme for Civil Judges and Additional District Judges. Sahar has a keen interest in gender and law, and legislative drafting. She co-authored the Anti-Rape Bill, which was passed into law as the Criminal Law (Amendment) (Offences Relating to Rape) Act in 2016, and the Punjab Maternity Benefits (Amendment) Bill, introduced before the Punjab Assembly in 2019. She has been regularly writing on the subject of women’s rights in various daily publications. Sahar was a contributing writer in an edited volume titled, “Disputed Legacies, Pakistan Papers” edited by Neelum Hussain, which was published by Zubaan Publishers in 2019. Sahar Zareen Bandial, the daughter of Supreme Court Chief Justice Atta Muhammad Bandial, has resigned from PEMRA. She has been serving as member of the Council of Complaints of the electronic media watchdog since 2019. Sahar Bandial’s resignation comes amid criticism on her father Justice Umar Ata Bandial. He is a Pakistani jurist who currently serves as the 28th Chief Justice of Pakistan . His appointment as the new Chief Justice was approved by President Dr. Arif Alvi on 13 January 2022, after which he assumed his office on 2 February 2022. He has been a Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan since 17 June 2014. Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court, he served as a Justice of Lahore High Court from 1 June 2012 to 16 June 2014. Justice Bandial will serve as the Chief Justice of Pakistan for one year, six months and 25 days from 2 February 2022 until his retirement on 16 September 2023. In 1973, Justice Bandial received his Senior Cambridge certificate from St Mary’s Academy, Rawalpindi. He then enrolled in Aitchison College, Lahore for his Higher Senior Cambridge certificate, which he received in 1975. He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Columbia University in 1979 and followed this with a Law Tripos degree from the University of Cambridge in 1981. He qualified as a Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn, London. He joined the Lahore High Court as an advocate in 1983. He also taught torts law and contract law at the Punjab University Law College in Lahore until 1987, after which he served on its Graduate Studies Committee. He then was made a Judge of the Lahore High Court. After a few years, he became a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
